Email: [email protected] Implication for health policy/practice/research/medical education: It is well known that hyperuricemia is an independent risk factor for renal progression in IgA nephropathy, however it is unclear the effect of allopurinol therapy, on the clinical outcome in hyperuricemic IgAN. It is possible that appropriate treatment by allopurinol be a reasonable modality in these patients. However, to better understand the kidney protective efficacy of allopurinol in IgAN patients, more clinical studies are suggested. A R T I C L E I N F O

Report of a Case of Immunoglobulin A Nephropathy in a Patient Without a Family History of Kidney Disease
Introduction: IgA Nephropathy is the most common form of glomerulonephritis and the major cause of end-stage renal disease. Gross or microscopic hematuria is a common symptom of hematuria and occurs in less than 5% to 10% of patients with IGM with rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis. The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic biomarkers of this disease after biopsy. Methods: IgA...
متن کاملHyperuricemia as a marker for progression of immunoglobulin A nephropathy
BACKGROUND The variable clinical and histopathological manifestations of immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) make it difficult to predict disease progression. A recent study showed that hyperuricemia, a condition common in hypertension and vascular disease, may contribute to renal dysfunction and histological changes including renal arteriosclerosis, tubular atrophy, and interstitial fibrosis. ...
متن کاملHyperuricemia: A non-traditional risk factor for development and progression of chronic kidney disease?
The historical association between hyperuricemia and kidand secretion occur in the proximal tubule, and as a conseney disease has been well-recognized from ancient times [1]; however, uric acid has been regarded as a marker rather than a risk factor for the development of renal disease since a decrease in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) per se induces an elevation in serum uric acid level desp...
متن کاملClinical outcome of hyperuricemia in IgA nephropathy: a retrospective cohort study and randomized controlled trial.
BACKGROUND Hyperuricemia is an independent risk factor for renal progression in IgA nephropathy (IgAN). However, no study has evaluated the effect of allopurinol on the clinical outcome in hyperuricemic IgAN. METHODS First,a retrospective cohort study of 353 IgAN patients was conducted to explore the relationship between uric acid (UA) and the progression of renal disease over a mean period o...
متن کاملHyperuricemia Induces Wnt5a/Ror2 Gene Expression, Epithelial–Mesenchymal Transition, and Kidney Tubular Injury in Mice
Background: Hyperuricemia contributes to kidney injury, characterized by tubular injury with epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). Wnt5a/Ror2 signaling drives EMT in many kidney pathologies. This study sought to evaluate the involvement of Wnt5a/Ror2 in hyperuricemia-induced EMT in kidney tubular injury. Methods: A hyperuricemia model was performed in male Swiss background mice (3 months old,...
